Hello, my
name is Ryan Scott and I’m a house addict. I’m not sure the exact moment it
actually happened but house music has taken control of my life. In fact I’d
say my relationship with music now borderlines obsession. I eat, sleep,
walk, and talk beats, take it away from me and I’d slip into a world of
despair carrying with it devastating symptoms of withdrawal.
I guess it all began in the early to mid 90’s with my first introduction to
electronic music. I was intrigued by these new sounds I was hearing and
needed more; it was something out of my control. As quickly as I could, I
found someone with a music hook-up and without knowing its highly addictive
qualities asked if I could give this “house music” a try. Since then my life
has been a blur of beats, blends, blips, bloops, synths, stabs and samples.
Over the years my sickness grew and I began to infect others. Recklessly
delivering beats with a total disregard for the wellbeing of myself or those
around me. In early 2000 I met another fellow addict Filip D and together
formed twodeep, a Chicago based support group designed to help individuals
deal with their unrelenting house addictions. We promptly attended numerous
club events and loft parties in an attempt to seek out others with similar
addictions and offer our support.
As time passed my tastes changed, eventually some flavors of house became more pleasing to the palate than others. In the beginning I’d dabble mostly with deep tech and a bit of house. Later on, after a few trips to California, I succumbed to the pressures of lounge and west coast soulful house. As time went on the tolerance of my addiction became apparent, I required something more. My love for tech was returning but my need for music was so great I had to play it all. These days I’ve completely given into music and play what I feel and whatever moves me. I do my best to take what’s out there and arrange it in a pleasing fashion for you to hear. Thanks for listening.
