I
dove into the world of New York clubbing during its golden era
in the mid-90s. I can remember lots of great nights at venues
like Limelight (infamous), Tunnel (aptly named),
USA (swank, stylish) and Palladium (jaded, opulent). House was
king, and the resident royals had names like Frankie Knuckles,
Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, and the up-andcoming
Satoshi Tomiie. The clubs themselves are now just memories.
I started DJ-ing as an attempt to capture and share the
exhilaration I'd experienced on the scene. At first just good
enough for friends, my efforts eventually won me a following and
led to private event gigs in New York City, San Francisco, on
Fire Island and in Palm Springs.
Sometimes it was a lounge nite, entertaining a group of young,
philanthropic do-gooders. Other times, I’d be sound-tracking the
depraved party rites of a bunch of dissipated ne’er-do-wells.
Yup, latterday saints to the scum of the earth –
no wonder my current style can seem so schizophrenic. I’ve spun
various flavors of trance,
then progressive house and breaks, and now I’m using minimal,
techhouse and electro more and more. I don't go clubbing quite
so much these days, but I still get the occasional gig request,
mainly for themed private parties. Now I’m mostly pitching to my
audience
through internet radio. A while back, one of my offerings won a
guest slot on a widely respected online show, The Genre Show,
currently on Frisky Radio. I did a short stint as a resident for
Danceradio, but some pressing family concerns intervened, and I
had
to drop it. I’m told my monthly show, Hour of The Lizard, was
doing really well. Now that I’m ready again, I suppose it’s a
good time for me to move my sound to a terrific up-andcoming
station, Stream-FM. I’m hoping lots of new listeners will
gravitate to my take on tuneage, which has been described as
“future melodic tech funk,” so there ya’ go.
Hour of The Lizard A 60 minute sensorium for the classic,
current and eclectic in progressive house, breaks and all other
compatibly evolved music species. Frequently seductive,
occasionally startling, the lizard can assume many colors to
reflect his changing moods. Catch him monthly on Stream-FM, |
